Umpqua Valley Quilt Show
The Umpqua Valley Quilters Guild Show is this weekend at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, in Roseburg, Oregon. It is the BEST show in Southern Oregon!! Over 300 quilts are entered, and many other special displays and vendor quilts samples. The featured quilter is Dr. Polly Sepulvada of Roseburg. She has been in the Paducah show many times, and does beautiful work in applique, hand quilting and traditional style quilts. Our Fyber Cafe group, has a display of our last three group challenges, "What's My Line?" "Beatles Songs" and "Weaving" I'll try to post some photos this weekend of our Textile Arts display, I just wanted to get the word out about the show. I also have several small art quilts entered in the show itself, and 5 in the Fyber Cafe display.

Umpqua Valley Quilters' Guild Show
The Umpqua Valley Quilters' Guild Show is next weekend, Fri, Sat & Sun, April 13, 14, 15, 2012. At the Douglas County Fairgrounds, Roseburg, Oregon, right on Interstate 5, exit 123. I took my entries in today, two art quilts, "Helebore" and "Sea, Sand and Light" I have high hopes for them ;) This is the first time in 20 years, that I will miss the quilt show, I am flying to Chicago for my nieces wedding on Wednesday. Even when I had my hysterectomy, we borrowed a wheelchair, and Charlie pushed me around the show. Going up to Portland last weekend for their show helped a little, but our show was always such a big deal here. I think we have the best show in the state of Oregon, though some shows have more vendors. We have been averaging over 300 quilts, each of the last few years! I only took in the two quilts, because all mine this last year were art quilts, I didn't have anything I could put in other more traditional categories. If you have a chance don't miss this awesome show, the guild works very hard on it every year!

UVQG Show 2011

Here is a pic of my quilt, that I made for Cheryl Malkowski's book, it is called "Maltese Cross" and is 73" square. The color in the photo is a bit off, the fluorescent lighting in the exhibit building. The background is a pretty navy blue Bali batik and the quilting is LIME green feathers. I won a second place ribbon in, "Pieced Bed Quilt, Quilted by Self, Advanced" it is a very large category, so I feel really happy about the 2nd place.

After the Quilt Show
The quilt show wore me out, working for the deadline really stressed me. I worked up to the last second adding items and details to my art quilt for the "Fyber Cafe" display. It turned out beautiful, tho I still wanted to add more stuff. So after the show I relaxed, cleaned my sewing room, it looked like a tornado hit it, all the bits and pieces everywhere. I sewed some very basic pieceing, for children's charity quilts. I call it zombie piecing, just feeding the pieces through the machine, one after the other, on and on. It can be very relaxing, mind numbing, but I feel like I am accomplishing something. I don't have to worry about matching corners, precision, or even colors too much. I made 75 blocks in a week and a half. The quilt guild is making some quilts for "Camp Millennium" the children's cancer camp, and we didn't have much time to finish them.
